Drying
Dry wood burns more efficiently, releases fewer polluting particles and is better for keeping your chimney clean.
The drying of firewood to reduce the moisture content to below 20% is called seasoning. This speed of the drying process depends on the type of wood and the way the wood is stored. Ultimately the only thing that matters is the moisture content of the logs upon delivery rather than how the logs are stored. The firewood we process one year is sold the year after.
We store our logs in an open fronted vented barn and the logs are stored in crates and vented log bags to allow the air to flow through to encourage the moisture stored within the logs to be released.
We use a moisture meter to sample the moisture levels and only sell the firewood when the moisture content is 20% or below.
We sell ‘Ready to Burn’ hard wood, soft wood, mixed wood and kindling.

Quantity
Our loads of firewood are 1 cubic metre of loose stacked logs.
Quantity is measured as our logs are stored after processing into 1 cubic metre crates or bags to dry and then transferred into our van for delivery.
